Available on the ASTER (Addressing Sex Trafficking Through Education and Research) WebPortal, this interactive e-learning curriculum developed in collaboration with an advisory group with lived and professional expertise in sex trafficking, provides an engaging way of enhancing one’s knowledge and skills in the provision of care to persons who are domestically sex trafficked. Completing this e-Learning requires approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
There are two distinct sections, each with its own learning objectives and examples. Section one, Understanding the Issue, includes terms and definitions, intersectionality and its relationship to sex trafficking, contributing factors, methods of recruitment, power and control, the scope of sex trafficking in Ontario, Canadian sex trafficking statistics, the continuum of sexual exchange, and sex trafficking of persons under the age of 18. Section two, Providing Acute and Follow-up Care, includes core elements for the practice of forensic nursing (Initial Assessment, Medical Examination and Treatment, Discharge, Follow-up Visit, and Resources).
Although this material was developed for forensic nurses, the information may have wider applicability to your practice in general healthcare, community, or social services. This curriculum is made available free-of-charge for those who complete a short request form.
